VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

 2008 Summer Camps

  • All-sports camp (May 27-30): Camp Counselors/Coaches 
    to supervise groups of children learning sports such as: soccer, flag
    football, baseball/softball, and basketball.
  • Vacation Bible School Instant Replay (June 2-6) Half day camp (afternoons) with swimming, crafts, movies, recreation time and more.
  • Arts and crafts camp (June 9 - 13): Ceramics, Creative Memories, Knitting, Painting etc. Camp Counselors to supervise children and oversee craft projects (under adult leadership)
  • Day Camp (June 16-20): Supervise recreation and craft activities for children in grades 1 and 2. (Morning Hours)
  • Fit Kids Camp (June 23-27): This camp will teach children how to make healthy choices about exercise and nutrition in fun, interactive activities.
  • Splash Camp (June 30-July 3 and July 28-August 1) Traditional summer camp with swimming, movies, recreation and crafts.

SMBC CLC Fun Nights: A Friday evening event for Shades members and friends of all ages. Help is needed to supervise activity areas such as: crafts, board games, preschool area, gym relays, food and more. Event is usually 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

 

Upward Basketball and Cheerleading

  • Game Day assistants: help with game day operations such as: Scoreboard, PA/Sound, front desk help, lining kids up to run through smoke, setting up game room and mezzanine.  3 hour shifts starting at 7:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.
  • Upward Evaluation Week: (Can work 1 night or all). Greet parents and children, help direct traffic as children try on uniform sizes, measure height, and do basketball drills for scores.
  • Assistant Basketball coaches (1 practice a week, 1 game a week beginning after Thanksgiving)
  • Assistant Cheerleading coaches (1 practice a week, 1 game a week beginning after Thanksgiving)

 

School's Out! And Summer Camps: Programs for children on days when area schools are closed for holidays. Crafts, recreation, snacks. Camp Counselor-type responsibilities.

 

Health Ministry Team: This team of individuals helps plan and implement programs that address the health needs of our congregation. Meetings are held regularly. You do not have to be in the health care field to participate.

 

Health and Wellness Expo volunteers: Church-wide health fair providing exhibits, seminars, demonstrations and information on living a healthy life physically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

VBS Recreation: assist with recreation activities for children in grades 1 – 5 during Bible School.

 

 

Special Events for Children: Weekly afternoon activities for children involving recreation, crafts, Bible stories and snacks. Tentatively scheduled for Thursday afternoons each week of the summer for grades 1 – 4.

 

Soccer: Saturday soccer league for young children. Four Saturdays in August.
