The Bible defines “meek” as:

1. mild, gentle (associated with self-control), humble, considerate, courteous, not occupied with self.

2. bridled strength; power under control

The Meek:

A. Self-control

Moses:

“Now the man Moses was very meek, more than all people who were on the face of the earth.”

— Numbers 12:3

Jesus:

“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

— Matthew 11:29, KJV

B. Submitted to God

C. Teachable spirit

“Therefore put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.”

— James 1:21

D. Gentle to others

1. When dealing with opponents:

“…in meekness setting right those who oppose, if God perhaps may sometime give them repentance to acknowledgment of [the] truth”

—II Timothy 2:25

2. When defending the gospel:

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear.”

—I Peter 3:15

3. When restoring one who has sinned:

“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.”

— Galatians 6:1

Inherit the earth

A. Satisfied, content and enjoying what they have in this world.

“The meek man cares not at all who is greater than he, for he has long ago decided that the esteem of the world is not worth the effort.”

—A.W. Tozer

B. Already possess all things in eternity

The meek person owns everything because he is submitted to the God who made everything and controls everything.

“…as having nothing, yet possessing everything.”

— II Corinthians 6:10

“So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours: whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas, or the world or life or death, or the present or the future—all are yours. And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.”

—I Corinthians 3:21-23
