What does Jesus mean when He said, "It is finished"?
I. God's purpose is fulfilled
"Jesus said to them, 'My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to accomplish His work.'"
--John 4:34
"I glorified You on earth, having accomplished the work You gave me to do." --John 17:4
"After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), 'I thirst.'"
--John 19:28
What was finished?
A. God's plan concerning Jesus' death was now finished.
B. The ceremonial law of sacrifice was finished.
C. The prophecies of the Old Testament were now fulfilled.
D. His suffering was now finished. E. The work of man's redemption and salvation was now completed.
II. Our sins are paid in full
