8But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
1. “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:”
· “demonstrates” = “shows, proves”
· “own love” = God loves us despite our sinfulness, despite our missing the mark of obedience, perfection, and holiness.
2. “While we were sinners, Christ died for us.”
· “While we were sinners” = Jesus Christ gave his life for us on the cross while we were still sinners.
· Jesus Christ loved us at our worst and lowest point -- as sinners.
· We do not have to “clean up our lives” to come to Christ – Christ already came to us when we were helpless sinners!!
· Jesus Christ chose to die on the cross as a substitute for us, as payment for our sins, so that we can enter into a right relationship with God.
· God showed/proved His love for us in that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to die for us on the cross even when we were living disobediently and rebelliously towards Him as sinners.
