ROMANS 10:9-10
Monday Night Bible Study – July 14, 2008
9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.
1. “That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord”
· “confess” = “admit, acknowledge”
· “Jesus is Lord” = Jesus is ruler, king, leader, boss.
· To be made right with God, a person must come to a point in his life when he submits his life to Christ’s leadership and makes him the ruler, king, leader, and boss of his life.
· A person must remove himself as the leader of his life, and allow Christ to lead his life – his priorities, thoughts, actions, decisions, etc.
· Key Concept = LORD
2. “and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead”
· “believe” = true belief, results in commitment and lifechange
· “heart” = deepest, innermost part of a person
· To be made right with God, a person must come to a point in his life when he genuinely believes in the deepest, innermost part of his being that Jesus Christ is God’s Son, that He gave His life on the cross for man’s sin, that He was buried for 3 days, and that God raised Him back to life after these 3 days.
· Key Concept = SAVIOR
3. “you will be saved”
· “saved” = delivered from sin, hell, eternity separated from God; delivered to life, heaven, and a restored relationship with God.
· Salvation is received by making Jesus the Lord and Savior of one’s life.
4. “For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified”
· “justified” = legal term meaning “declared innocent, righteous”
· Because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross for man’s sin, a person can be declared right with God and innocent in His eyes.
5. “and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved”
