The goal of every Christian is to pursue spiritual maturity; to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. "Press on" — dioko To run after; to chase after with intensity of effort. I. Press on: Why? A. Dissatisfied with where you are spiritually (v. 12a)
B. Desire to pursue the purposes for which Christ has chosen you (v. 12b)
II. Press on: How? A. Concentrate on one thing (v. 13b) "I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it and come down to you?" —Nehemiah 6:3 They came back four more times but he refused. B. Forget two things (v 13c) 1. Past failures—guilt 2. Past achievements and successes These can be excuses for relaxation C. Exert strong effort (v. 13d) D. Focus on the upward call (v. 14) E. Maintain a disciplined, consistent walk (v. 15-16) |
