I.     Jesus is compassionate (vs. 5-6)

This man had a hopelessness and a helplessness

III.     Jesus prescribes a remedy (vs. 8)
1.     Rise – do the thing you cannot do because I tell you to do it…and do it by my power.
2.     Take up your bed – make no provisions for a relapse
3.     Walk – move forward in your new condition
Do it now because not every moment is open to spiritual change

IV.     Jesus outlines a plan for prevention (vs. 14)
1.     Worship God
2.     Read the Word
Psalm 119:11, “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
3.     Surrender your will
Romans 12:1, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
