Shades Mountain Baptist Church

We simply ask that you come...
let Jesus be the reason.

What We Believe

Baptist churches, associations, and general bodies have adopted confessions of faith as a witness to the world, and as instruments of doctrinal accountability.

Our mission is to send transformed people to influence their world for Christ.

Our History

In 1907, the area just south of town called Shades Mountain was developing. The Reverend William (Uncle Billy) Sellers lived on this mountain and had a burden for the local children to have a chance to study the Bible. Though they started meeting under a shade tree, they later moved to the Montgomery schoolhouse. For nineteen years the small congregation, led by Sellers, a farmer and minister, met in that one room schoolhouse.

Church renamed "Shades Mountain Baptist Church"

Led by his compassion for the community, they formed the White's Chapel Baptist Church in 1911. In 1924, the church voted to buy "Lot 2, Shady Rock Survey, for $500 to build a church upon." Just two years later they celebrated with their first service in the new building on Valentine's Day, renaming the church "Shades Mountain Baptist Church."

Chapters

The Chapters Campaign set the goal that at the end of 2016:
• Our facility master plan will be complete
• All older buildings will be renovated
• We will be debt free

When we " Turn the Page" to 2017 we will have a blank sheet of paper!
• No facility issues • No debt payments
Just wide open saying, "God what God-sized plans do you have for Shades?"

No impediments... no excuses.
