2018/2019 Playdaze Themes

November 12 - Campfire

Thanksgiving is quickly approaching! Let’s gather around the campfire and talk about what it means to be truly thankful. We will talk over s’mores about how to be grateful for the everyday things as well as the “big” moments in our lives.

For our Winter Playdaze we will explore our hidden talents by playing all kinds of game shows. Gameshows bring out a little bit of that friendly competition we all love. These days will help us stretch our minds and, in some cases, but our bodies to the test with “physical challenges”. There is something for everyone and lots of fun to be had by all!

December 21 - Family Feud

How well can you work as a team to get the right answer? Today we will join our “families” and try not to let things come to a feud as we learn about the importance of working as a team.

December 27 - Price is Right

Can you name the right price? This iconic game show will inspire a lot of silliness and test our knowledge of different values, including our own.

December 28 - Wheel of Fortune

                Can I buy a vowel? I’d like to solve the puzzle. Come spend a f_n day so_v_ng p_zz_es and w_nn_ng pr_zes!

January 2 - Figure it Out

So many of our kiddos have such a large range of gifts and talents. Our gameshow today is an interesting way for each child to show their special talent. Kids will use charades and the five senses to give our counselors clues to see if we can “figure out” each talent.

January 3 - Singing Bee

Finish the line! Not only will we learn about how to play the game Singing Bee, but we will spend our day with silly lip sync battles and karaoke. It’s sure to be a ton of fun naming that tune.

January 4 - Jeopardy

What is…. Playdaze! We’ll finish up our series of gameshow play with the classic Jeopardy. A “daily double” full of trivia and laughter will surely win the day!

January 21 - Dr. Seuss

Dr. Seuss was a visionary of his time that famously wrote in The Lorax, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” We’ll spend today looking at the dreams of Dr. Seuss and the roles that we can play to serve and encourage each other.

For our Spring Break Playdaze we will explore different continents through the lens of some of our favorite children’s movies. We’ll learn about different habitats, cultures, and animal life from all around the world.

March 25 - Rescuers Down Under

None of us are after a golden eagle, but we can still learn a lot about how each one of us can bring something valuable to a team. We’re not all a goofy albatross or an adventurous kangaroo rat, but today we’re going to learn how our differences make us just right!

March 26 - Lion King

Some of us just can’t wait to be king, but we all know that being king (or being an adult) comes with a lot of responsibility. Let’s enjoy today being silly and soak up all of the kid moments we can!  We’ll also learn about the continent of Africa and experience our own safari!

March 27 - Jungle Book

It’s the “bear” necessities! Instead of forgetting about our worries and strife like Blaoo teaches, today we will learn about what it looks like to cast our burdens onto Jesus. So bring your bananas and let’s figure out how God can help us through this jungle of life!

March 28 - Finding Dory

We would be remiss if we missed an opportunity to explore the range of habitats under the sea. We’ll follow our friends from the reef as we go on an adventure through the different marine habitats and make new friends with new marine animals. We may even learn to speak new languages … like whale!

March 29 - Rio

Rio is a movie all about celebrating South American culture. Today we will look at different cultures and learn about all of the special things that make us unique. We will learn that everyone is the same in God’s eyes no matter what culture or background from which we come!
