We have some exciting new updates about the Shades and McElwain adoption process! Last Sunday, our relationship with McElwain became official, and with the completion of this significant step, there are three terrific announcements to share!

First, McElwain Baptist Church is now Hope Community Church. You can watch and read more below about how we landed on this name. Second, we're sending out one of our own to serve as pastor at Hope Community. Jacob Simmons, Minister to Single Adults and Pastoral Care, will become pastor of Hope Community, effective November 1. Third, there will be an interest meeting for anyone wanting to learn more about ways to get involved with Hope Community. Mark your calendars for Sunday, November 1 at 6 PM in the Student Building to learn more about how you can join this work.

Church Families!

I’m excited to share some new updates with you about the Shades and McElwain adoption process! Last Sunday the members at McElwain voted to legally finalize the relationship with Shades, which included the adoption of new bylaws and articles of incorporation. It’s officially official!!

With the completion of this significant step, we also announced a new church name to mark this new chapter. McElwain Baptist Church is now Hope Community Church From the very beginning, our discussions with the Vision Team at McElwain have had a tone of determined hopefulness. The church continues to have a strong desire to make an impact on the east side of Birmingham with the good news of the gospel. This new name is a natural choice in light of the journey that brought us here and the vision we all share for the future. You can watch this video that was shared at the McElwain business meeting last Sunday to learn more about this decision!

We are also eager to announce that Shades is sending out a current staff member to serve as the new pastor at Hope Community Church. Effective November 1, Jacob Simmons will become the pastor of Hope Community! Jacob has faithfully served at Shades as Minister to Single Adults and Pastoral Care for over 5 years. He and his wife Suzanne are looking forward with great expectancy to this new call on their lives.  Be sure to watch this video to hear more from Jacob about his new role and what’s ahead at Hope Community Church.

For anyone interested in learning more about opportunities to be a part of what God is doing at Hope Community Church, there will be an interest meeting on Sunday, November 1, at 6:00 p.m. in the Student Building.

It’s an exciting time for Shades and Hope Community Church! Let’s keep praying together for all God will do over the mountain and on the east side of Birmingham!
